SPECIALS & LEARNING SUPPORT

Students in all grades enjoy many weekly “Specials” in addition to their regular academic classes.

Concerts, art shows, computer programing, language development, and much more involve our students in many ways throughout the school year.

LEARNING SUPPORT

While the CIU-10 provides our students with support in math , enrichment, counseling, and speech, we are blessed at Nittany Christian School to offer in-house learning support for our students.

Mrs. Lani Daubenspeck first joined the Nittany Christian community in 2009 and since then has delighted inspiring Kindergarten through eighth grade in all kinds of creative endeavors. Including mediums from charcoal, to digital, from impressionistic to sculpture and everything in between. Lani stays active by walking the family dog, biking or hiking, gardening, and working with her husband and two sons on house projects.

Señora Miriam Schneider is a native Spanish speaker, and while she can’t remember a time when she did not speak English, she is told that Spanish was her first language. Mrs. Schneider graduated in 1986 from Queens College, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a minor in Economics and went on to graduate from the University of Michigan Law School in 1989. Mrs. Schneider has taught several cooperative Spanish classes for high school, middle school, and upper elementary grades for many years as well as teaching her own four children over the past 18 years.

“Miss Laura” Schneider is happy to be a part of NCS serving as our P.E. and Middle School Health teacher. Laura recently graduated from Penn State with a Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management and a minor in Sports Studies. She grew up a local of Port Matilda. She enjoys spending time with her husband and friends. She loves to work with kids and promote healthy development for them. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and friends.

Mrs. Laura Leslie earned her Bachelor of Sacred Music Degree from Nyack College where she studied organ, piano, voice and harpsichord. She has played the organ at Saint Ignatius Loyola, Saint Thomas Aquinas and Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, and throughout the country. Laura has also served as Music Director and Organist for various churches in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. She especially enjoys working with children and youth and loves the opportunity to work with them each week here at Nittany Christian. When not doing her music thing, she enjoys scrap-booking, stamping, cooking, traveling and spending time with her husband and two boys.

Mrs. Tiffany Weaver is excited to be on staff this year as the Learning Support Teacher. She has been a part of the NCS family for many years as two of her daughters are NCS alumnae and has a current 5th grader enrolled. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and has completed graduate work in Autism Education from Liberty University. She has been working with children with autism for the last several years, and she is excited serve and meet the needs of the NCS students

Mrs. Weaver enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading a good book, and eating good food.

Mrs. Steph Shreckengast (Mrs. Shreck) first started at NCS in 2010 as the 4th grade teacher, when she was still a newlywed with no kids! She is excited to be back to teaching, now that Mr. Shreck and her two children are also a part of the community.

Mrs. Shreck has always wanted to be a teacher, and she graduated college in the Philippines with a degree in Elementary Education. Since then she has been blessed to learn much, both inside and outside the classroom: from students in multiple countries, classes, Sunday schools, and of course her own two at home. She has also always loved reading; a book and a warm drink in a cozy corner, surrounded by family, is her ideal respite. Adventures in books have always taught her about God, and she’s excited for the opportunity to bring all of her passions together as she teaches elementary library!

Mr. Matthew Turay teaches Bible and Elementary Chapel at NCS.  Matt graduated from Penn State with a B.S. in Recreation and Parks Management and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with an M. Div. in Christian Ministry, but don't ask him to translate any Greek or Hebrew on the spot.  Before joining the NCS team, Matt served as a teacher's aide in first grade for several years and before that spent many years as a stay-at-home dad to his two children.

When Matt isn't grading papers or prepping for the next class, he enjoys backpacking with his family, the shooting sports, and not folding laundry.
